The Lifeline Difference

What is the Lifeline Difference in our pulmonary rehabilitation and cardiac therapy program?  It’s our skilled multidisciplinary staff.

Optimal management of respiratory and cardiac diseases involves an integrated care approach.  The cornerstones of the multidisciplinary, collaborative approach at Lifeline are physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and social work.  The team at Lifeline has experience in how to approach patients with multiple conditions and symptoms

Physical Therapy:

Physical therapists (PTs) might not be the first professionals that come to mind for treating patients with lung and heart conditions.  Physical therapists play an important role in helping people reduce their loss of function as result of lung and heart conditions.  They have skilled training in heart and lung disease as well as rehabilitation needs, including monitoring for safety.   Not only can PTs help to recover from lung and heart related conditions, they can help optimize your overall function, enabling you to participate in activities that support your lungs and heart function. PTs can even help you initiate an exercise program after extended inactivity due to COVID-19.  PTs are movement and exercise experts.  They can help you move in ways to keep you healthy and enable you to do activities to keep you healthy.  We are here to help promote movement and give recommendations based on what you enjoy and what your body allows.

Respiratory Therapy:

Respiratory therapists are the next team member that plays a key role in improving lung health for patients with respiratory and cardiac disease.   The respiratory therapists develop an individually tailored care plan targeted to enhance your independence and confidence to achieve milestones.  The respiratory therapist applies proven strategies to meet your respiratory care needs and improve lung function.  The respiratory therapist provides self- management education, exercise training, social support, and breathing training to help you return to a more active and healthy lifestyle.  The respiratory therapist also assesses your current equipment and determines equipment needs, facilitates obtaining the proper equipment, and will assist with titrating your oxygen as appropriate.

Social Work:

The last piece to the Lifeline team is the social worker.  Our Social worker is paramount in supporting our other team members.  Often times, your emotional well-being can be effected by your cardiopulmonary impairments.  The social worker at Lifeline will assess your emotional well-being, stress, anxiety, and depression and assist you with any of your needs.  Our social worker will use motivational and collaborative self-management principles to assist you with modifying your health related behaviors for additional program benefits.   Social work will offer additional support to you and your family and arrange community services as needed.  It is important to take care of every aspect of your health when you are working to improve your independence and quality of life.

Lifeline is a lifestyle and can be your “bounce back” program and your partner in health for a life time.
