Tips for Staying Healthy this Winter Season

A new year means new beginnings and fresh starts.  January also means colder temperatures, and  if you have a pulmonary issue like COPD, asthma, or emphysema, the cold weather can bring on increased symptoms of shortness of breath and coughing. 

  1. Always layer your clothing when going outside
    Don’t underestimate even short trips, remember to layer up and wear a scarf over your nose and mouth to make breathing easier.
  2. Stay as active as possible
    Combating the winter blues with physical activity will help your mood and your lungs; so commit to a weekly routine within the home or at Lifeline Therapy. 
  3. Plan ahead with your medications
    Make sure to carry your medications with you and use your medications before you leave the house. And don’t forget your flu shot to combat illness. Additionally, plan ahead when your prescription refills are due so that a bad storm doesn’t stop you from getting the medication your body needs.
